Through commitments with the Columbia Orchestra (MD), Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, and Albany Symphony Orchestra (GA), Oscar De La Rosa has taken part in many concert series dedicated to allowing the youth of Baltimore and South Georgia to not only listen to classical music, but also engage directly with the musicians through a variety of activities, such as Q&A sessions, excerpt readings, and even a “Brass Olympics” to show off the capabilities of the instrument. Between 2021 and 2023, he undertook multiple tours and recitals with Valdosta State University’s Presidential Brass Quintet throughout Georgia and Florida, each of which granted more opportunity for Mr. De La Rosa to interact with the next generation of musicians.
Being able to share the stage with his friends and colleagues is a crucial part of the music-making process for Mr. De La Rosa. As such, it is easy to see how chamber music continues to be a significant aspect of his career. Most recently, Mr. De La Rosa, alongside his friends and mentor, performed the Eric Richards Trombone Quartet Concerto with the Valdosta State University Wind Ensemble. As a member of the Presidential Brass Quintet, he was invited to the Capitol Building in Atlanta, GA, to play during the investiture of Sonny Perdue as Chancellor of the University System of Georgia. While recognition from the state government was an honor, the real honor for Oscar De La Rosa was being able to celebrate the historic moment with his fellow musicians, colleagues, and friends.
Oscar De La Rosa is currently pursuing his Master of Music degree from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins, with guidance and instruction from David Murray and Randy Campora. He holds a B.M. in Trombone Performance from Valdosta State University under the mentorship of Dr. Douglas Farwell.
